When Windows XP will End

In less than 1,000 days, Microsoft will take Windows XP to the Operating System Graveyard to rest aside Windows 98, ME and 2000.

Of course, Windows XP is one of the most favored Operating Systems of our time. It has dominated the OS market since it’s release in 2001. This outdated platform is still a mainstay in both homes and small businesses. However, in 2012, the Redmond company will discontinue all support for Windows XP.

Traditional support was discontinued back in 2010 and is operating on borrowed time.

How Businesses can Convert from Windows XP to Windows 7

On April 8, 2014, Microsoft will disable all support for XP, which includes the Extended Support for XP. This gives those users hopefully ample time to upgrade to a more technically relevant Operating System., such as Windows 7 or Windows 8. The good news is that Windows 7  does have the “XP Mode” feature. This is a great alternative for those devoted XP users or those working with older software applications that require it.
“On April 8, 2014, security patches and hotfixes for all versions of Windows XP will no longer be available. So bottom line, PC’s running Windows XP will be vulnerable to security threats,” revealed Microsoft’s Stephen L Rose.

“Furthermore, many third party software providers are not planning to extend support for their applications running on Windows XP, which translates to even more complexity, security risks, and ultimately, added management costs for your IT department if you’re still managing Windows XP environments.”
Microsoft’s decision to discontinue support of this operating system clears the path for increased sales of Windows 7 and the upcoming Windows 8 Operating System as consumers realize that security breaches and other vulnerabilities pose much greater a threat when looking at the big picture here.
